Function
The function of this project was to trace the personal, business, and philanthropic history of the Alkek Family in an attractive visual way. Thousands of documents, photographs, newspaper articles, and other ephemera were reviewed and selected by MKG Art Management. The most visually attractive and informative documents and artifacts were selected for reformatting and display.
Aesthetics
The offices of the Alkek Foundation are decorated in a traditionally elegant way, utilizing custom wood, stone and brass finishes. The archival material had to fit this aesthetic without appearing crowded or disorganized. The material further had to illustrate a visual time line of the important impact the Alkek Family has had on Houston specifically, and Texas in general. Once selected, the objects were framed in a simply elegant gold-leaf frame and hung “salon-style” in two conference rooms.
Site Specificity
Illustrated above, the Alkek Foundation boardroom now contains an illustrated timeline of the public business and philanthropic achievements of the Alkek family. A smaller conference room, not illustrated, is decorated with family photographs and personal documents dating from the 1920s through the present. |
