Function
For this custom interior, our client desired that the art works seamlessly complement the rich coloration of the space. The client also is interested in art that references the natural world with recognizable imagery. The space is masculine without feeling heavy or cliché, and the art needed to underline this general aesthetic.
Aesthetics
The colors within the space are in the warm tonal range, utilizing umber, ebony, beige and cream. The fabrics are suede and wool. Wood and leather paneling, as well as bronze and shagreen accents punctuate the space. MKG worked with Chaswil to select art reflecting their interest in the outdoors and landscape. In this seating area a large-scale rural landscape floats over an ebony and shagreen credenza. At the end of the short hall is a painting on paper of an ibis, which is a bird that populates the gulf coast of Texas. The painting on the right incorporates maps and painted landscapes on a collaged surface.
Site Sensitivity
The lobby and seating area is full of natural light and requires large scale art that does not compete with the rich finishes, but rather compliments the furniture layout. By selecting large scale work that focuses on natural imagery, we were able to complement the masculine aesthetic without becoming overbearing or expected. |
