After eleven years of academic and practical experience in the art world, Melissa Kepke Grobmyer founded MKG Art Management in 1998. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and her Master of Arts degrees at the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated with high honors. Before becoming an art advisor, Mrs. Grobmyer worked with 9th through 18th century Decorative art at Sotheby's in New York. Later she worked with Contemporary art at Robert Miller Gallery and 19th century American art at Richard York Gallery, both in New York. After returning to Houston, she was Senior Associate at an art advising firm for three and one half years. In her work as an art advisor, she assembled collections focused on topics such as American photography, Contemporary art, African-American art, Latino-American art, and Asian-American art. She has also researched, assembled and administrated collections of Modernism, Abstract Expressionism, and 19th century Realism and Impressionism.
Cecily Earhart Horton joined MKG Art Management in1999, bringing an expertise in both fine and decorative arts. Trained initially at the Inchbold School of Design in London, Ms. Horton received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Wellesley College and her Master of Arts degree and Master of Philosophy degree in the History of Art from Yale University. Ms. Horton directed sales of contemporary art at Hiram Butler Gallery and, later, prints and drawings at Moody Gallery, both of Houston. Ms. Horton is certified by the International Society of Appraisers to perform fine art appraisals and currently serves on the modern and contemporary art and the decorative arts acquisitions committees at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In addition, Ms. Horton is a trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and a trustee and past president of Lawndale Art Center.
Britt Chemla Jones received her Masters of Art History degree with Honors from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Mrs. Jones worked at Butterfield & Butterfield Fine Art Auctioneers in San Francisco, where she managed the Painting Department inventories. After obtaining a post-graduate degree from the University of Strasbourg, France in 17th century Dutch art, Mrs. Jones moved to Houston where she joined the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston as Curatorial Assistant for the American Art Department. She later joined an art advising firm as an Associate, where she was Project Manager for large-scale acquisitions projects. Mrs. Jones joined MKG Art Management in January 2001 as Senior Associate.
Janet Phelps joined MKG Art Management in January 2006 as a Senior Associate. She has been an independent curator since1998, as well as, the curator of the contemporary art collection for Urban Investments Advisors/Starwood Urban Group, based Washington, DC and in Miami Beach, Florida. Janet successfully conceived and mounted several high profile national and international art fairs and exhibits that include Meat Market Art Fair in New York City, Nov 2000; Fast FWD Miami, Dec 2001, artpoint, Dec 2002, The NADA Art Fair, Dec 2003, all in Miami Beach. She has curated numerous exhibitions in New York City, Miami Beach, Washington, DC and Mexico City and has advised many institutions, galleries and individuals around the country. Janet graduated from NYU in 1993 with a Masters in Arts Administration and lived and worked in New York City from 1991 until 2006. She serves on the board of directors for Momenta Art in New York City and is an active member of ArtTable Inc.
Tabitha Caldwell Doby received her Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Museum Studies/Museum Exhibition Planning and Design from the Philadelphia College of Art and Design at The University of the Arts. Over the past six years Ms. Doby has worked with such venues as the Library of Congress, The Barnes Foundation of Merrion, Pennsylvania, The Philadelphia Arts Alliance, and The Academy of Natural Sciences; working with both curators and educators on projects from initial concept, through the design process, to installation while employing a vast array of presentation methodology. Her experience includes conceptualization, research, organization, design, and production of exhibits and educational presentations, utilizing a variety of techniques and media.
Jeryn L. Woodard worked on public art projects in Arkansas and Virginia before graduating with a Masters of Arts in Art History from the University of Virginia where her concentrations included modern public art as well as Byzantine and early Christian art. After moving to Houston, she taught at Houston Community College, where she was awarded the 2003 Faculty Excellence Award. Jeryn continues to pursue her interest in bringing art to a larger audience by serving as the Activities Director of Saturdays at Central, a children’s visual and performing arts festival hosted by Houston Community College, Central Campus. She joined MKG Art Management in 2006, and will bring her knowledge of public art and emerging artists to the rotating exhibitions program.
